Seeing is believing-interview brief

For this project I decided to use photography to get some of the elements and characters, cut them out in photoshop to be able to manipulate them on AE. Very much like a traditional paper cut animation only using after effect.

The fact that I decided to live in a van during my final year seems to have intrigued quiet a few people so I use that as my subject.

As someone was going to give me an interview , I toke the deception to stage it like an interview as you can see above.

The the back ground was made with AI, where i build some of the elements:

clouds

clowd

mountains:

mountain.

They were than imported into AE and using a paper texture with the alfa layer effect to create the paper look the all the elements have, clouds, mountains, tree, etc…

Here is a little update process update to have an idea on how it all was put together:

After recording the voice I decided to only keep the answers and add a little speech bubble imitate comics and create more diverse and interesting visuals.

For this 3min video simplicity was the key and only 3questions were used

-why?

why?

-where?

where?

-what?

what?

Editing with sound in after effect is a nightmare and even if there a few ways around it the rendering of all the affect makes the playback very frustrating and the process much longer….

so once the voice track was in synchronised with all the imagery I exported and imported everything again into final cut pro to apply the final visual affect, do a little colour correction and add the background music.

I aimed to symbolise the characters expressions and minimise their movements so most of the animation work was done on the elements popping up along the video. they help complementing the voice and I intended to get a rougher look regarding the actions and hopped to gain on humoristic aspect.
